Consumer Online is an initiative launched by Consumer Online
Foundation (COF) to interlink and integrate a comprehensive database
of information related to consumers, consumerism and the digital
economy.
Consumer Online Foundation, is a registered Trust formed with
the motive of ensuring that modern technologies and communication
medium are used to sub serve the greater common good. COF advocates
the use of these effective communication tools to ensure improved
productivity, enhanced information delivery, reduced transaction
costs and efficiency in society. COF manages one of the country’s
largest resource centres on Consumer law and policy in India and
its dedicated band of researchers have been involved in addressing
various legal remedies affecting consumers.
The COF has adopted a four-pronged strategy of providing (i) Research
support; (ii) Information dissemination; (iii) Advocacy support;
and (iv) Litigation support to achieve its mandate.
COF has conceived, managed and implemented the CORE Centre project
on behalf of the Consumer Co-ordination Council and the Ministry
of Consumer Affairs, Food and Public Distribution. It has also
helped build the countries largest resource centres on Consumer
law and policy in India and its dedicated band of researchers
have been involved in addressing various legal remedies affecting
consumers.
COF has spear headed several public interest litigations including
the PILs on issues, like the banning of Internet E-groups like
yahoo; improper implementation of the FM radio policy; and the
arbitrary introduction of the Conditional Access System(CAS).
The present COF website has been designed to interlink and integrate
content relating to consumer issues in a digital economy and provides
specific information of the activities, events, press releases,
and campaigns on the subject. Such information would help the
consumers in understanding the evolving role of policy and law
in consumer awareness.
